2200 - Twenty Two Hundred

In the year 2200, a speculative future fiction unfolds in a post-colonial Pretoria, presenting a homogeneous society where space, people, and function are standardized. The exhibition showcases design applications that invite subjective interpretations of design's role in this fictional world. By reimagining space and challenging its occupation, the narrative aims to construct a hybrid of absolute and abstract space. This gentrification of space eliminates subjective judgments and contrasting spaces, presenting a future fiction post-colonial heterotopic Pretoria called 2200. The designs in the exhibition serve as speculative artifacts, offering a glimpse into the aesthetics, behavior, interaction, and function of this fictional world, with visual cues hinting at technological advancements. The designs provide a poetic and subtle experience, inviting viewers to envision the politics, social relations, and ideology of this future fiction. The interaction and showcasing of these designs in contemporary society create a heterotopic experience in itself.
